What is going on in Summerville, South Carolina?  Well, this town has a lot to offer.  The Summerville real estate market has long been known as a haven for first time home buyers, investors and retirees.  Homes here are a mix of old and new. Reasonable prices and fewer highs and lows than some of its neighbors have marked the Summerville real estate market as strong player in the improving economy.  Affordable homes are the strongest sellers in Summerville’s real estate market and this town has a wealth of these to offer.

Mt P Stats

The Mount Pleasant real estate market is showing some positive trends in a few key areas.  Homes listed for sale in Mt. Pleasant are spending fewer days on the market.  On average a home is listed for around 120 days before it sells. When that home does sell, the selling price per square foot is three dollars more, than it was a year ago.   With some of the most exclusive homes in South Carolina, positive trends in Mount Pleasant can translate into positive trends in neighboring cities as well.

Conde Nast magazine

Charleston was recently named the top tourist destination, in the country, by Conde Nast magazine.  Charleston has long been known as a great city to visit.  But much more importantly, Charleston is an amazing city to call home.  Charleston real estate has something to offer everyone.  Historic homes are neighbors to modern condominiums and townhomes. Traditional lowcountry homes offer an elegance and grace unique to Charleston.  If waterfront real estate is what a person seeks, Charleston offers a wide variety of choices. According to recent statistics released by Realtor.com, the national real estate market is beginning to right itself.  The Charleston real estate market is part of this positive trend.  Home prices in the Charleston metropolitan area were up almost four percent for the year. With an average of 7,000 homes on the market, buyers have a wide selection of real estate to choose from.  Charleston’s newest neighbor, Boeing, not only brought jobs to the area, but also other businesses.  These new neighbors are bringing home buyers into the Charleston real estate market.  Welcome neighbor!

southern chefs

Southern chefs are coming to the Lowcountry. Charleston will be home to its first annual, Distinctively Charleston Food and Wine Festival, March 1-4, 2012.  The chefs from all over the south will be joined by nationally recognized sommeliers.  Food pairing seminars, cooking demonstrations, tastings and more will all be part of this “don’t miss it” event.

End Priacy - Not Liberty

Did you know that there are groups who are trying to regulate the internet? There are 2 bills SOPA And PIPA that congress will vote on January 24th. These bills for starters could seriously hurt economic growth. Many high profile companies such as google.com, facbook.com and wikepeda.com for example oppose these kind of bills even though they have the financial backing to adopt to this new regulations. Of course small companies will not have the money to conform to these regulations and small business is currently the biggest employer the in the United States. This is a serious freedom of speech as well as an economic issue.

Headed in the Right Direction

The Charleston real estate market seems to be headed in the right direction.  November saw a 10% increase in the number of homes sold, over November of 2010. Prices are remaining stable and even increasing ever so slightly.  It doesn’t hurt that Charleston was ranked one of the “Top 10 Best cities for Technology Jobs” by Forbes magazine.  As other companies follow Boeing into the Lowcountry, look for even more improvement in the Charleston area real  estate market.

Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston

2012 is the 30th anniversary of this exposition.  Wildlife shows, exhibitions and demonstrations fill Gaillard Auditorium, Marion Square Park and other venues around Charleston. Cooking demonstrations from various local chefs highlight the weekend.  Dates are February 17 -19, 2012. Summerville

Grab your walking shoes and head to Summerville.  “Flowertown” as Summerville is nicknamed, sponsors a Walking Tour of Private Homes and Gardens.  The Chamber of Commerce has maps available for this six block tour.  The walk takes you past homes and gardens dating back as far as 1820. The Trail of Homes and Flowers tells the story of Summerville better than any book ever could.  Enjoy!

The Gardens at Middleton Place are blooming.  That’s right, blooming at the height of winter. Camellias that have graced these gardens for hundreds of years are blooming.  Whites, reds in a variety of shades, pinks and a variety of other colors can be found during January and February.  The Gardens at Middleton Place have been called “the most important and the most interesting gardens in America.  There are 65 acres that have been planted and landscaped so that something blooms here, all year long.

looking for dog friendly?

Isle of Palms is dog friendly!  Dogs can roam the beaches, off their leashes!  Well only from 5am to 8am April thru September and 4pm to 10 am September thru March.  But the dogs are free to roam as long as their owners follow the rules and have their leash in their hand and are within calling range of their dogs and of course clean up after them.  Enjoy the beach!
